Launched in 2016, Evenings with Enrique is a biannual concert series held in April and October. The series is a tribute to the renowned Mexican artist, Enrique Alférez, who resided in New Orleans for nearly seven decades and left an indelible mark on the city’s art scene. Over 20 of Alférez’s artworks are showcased at The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden within the New Orleans Botanical Garden. His sculptures also grace various locations throughout New Orleans, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans Museum of Art, Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition, and New Orleans City Park.
Enthusiasts of Alférez’s work can acquire the book “Enrique Alférez: Sculptor” by Katie Bowler Young at the Botanical Garden’s gift shop. Published by The Historic New Orleans Collection, this book chronicles the life and legacy of the eminent artist, made possible with support from The Helis Foundation and members of The Historic New Orleans Collection’s 2019 Bienville Circle and Laussat Society.
Throughout the year, The Helis Foundation extends its Art for All initiative, offering free admission on select days for Louisiana residents to several of New Orleans’ most cherished cultural institutions, including the New Orleans Botanical Garden, New Orleans Museum of Art, Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Louisiana Children’s Museum.
